*Telehealth Lactation Consultant (Healthcare)

The Telehealth Lactation Consultant provides clinical lactation care and management to breastfeeding families via telehealth; collaborates with other healthcare team members; provides education to a variety of audiences.

 

Duties:

  • Provides lactation and breastfeeding support via telehealth to breastfeeding mothers during pregnancy and after delivery.
  • Establishes and maintains a statewide telephone hotline to provide lactation support.
  • Provides lactation and breastfeeding education and training for health care providers.
  • Community outreach to stakeholders statewide to increase uptake of the lactation telehealth service.
  • Facilitates research in human lactation and breastfeeding.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Required Education: Associate's degree. AND:

  • 36 months of experience working as a lactation consultant OR as a breastfeeding peer counselor, Le Leche League Leader, or healthcare provider in maternal/child health.

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 24 months related experience in lieu of the Associate's degree for a total of 60 months of related experience.

Certifications or Licenses: International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), and Registered Lactation Consultant (RLC).

Skills:

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to train and put together training material.
  • Ability to be patient and handle stressful situations.
  • Time management and organization skills and detail oriented.
  • Ability to utilize computer software including; Microsoft Office, graphics, presentation software and create web-pages.

    • Sit for prolonged periods.
    • Communicate effectively.
    • Manual dexterity.
  • Environmental:
    • Standard Office Environment with some off-campus meetings with external partners.
