Director of Operations (Finance)



Summary

Fairbanks Morse Defense is looking for a Director of Operations to join our team. This role will d irect the manufacturing departments in a union environment to achieve financial and operational results for the aftermarket spare parts and OEM engine production. The director embodies a culture of servant leadership to unlock individuals' potential while driving accountability and local ownership of outcomes.

This position has leadership responsibilities and a direct reporting structure from the following areas: Manufacturing/Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Facilities and Maintenance. Additionally, this position is responsible to support and adhere to all policies/activities related to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct manufacturing operations to achieve on-time deliveries, quality, cost and safety goals.
  • Support a team environment that ensures alignment to company goals, objectives, and corporate values.
  • Lead in a manner that supports Fairbanks Morse Defense key values of Velocity, Integrity and Teamwork.
  • Monitor schedules for manufacturing and materials delivery in accordance with program management milestones determined by customers
  • Responsible for meeting schedules within established budget and profit objectives in addition to planning and recommending capital expenditures
  • Responsible to work with peers and reports to propose and execute CapEx programs and budgets
  • Initiate improvements in production, labor efficiency, quality control, production control, materials execution, etc.
  • Manage the performance management and talent assessment function for direct staff, including performance plans, development plans, assessments, and salary merit increases
  • Responsible for recommending new policies and procedures and ensuring established policies and procedures are followed and appropriate controls are in place as needed and/or required.
  • Experience managing in a union-represented environment is helpful.
  • Manage manpower resources to ensure operational efficiency where goals can be attained
  • Establish an accountable culture focused on continuous improvement within the operations/manufacturing organization.
  • Implement True Lean concepts throughout all manufacturing areas to drive improvements.
  • Utilize x-matrix (policy deployment) to align manufacturing objectives to long term company goals.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business or technical discipline required. Master's Degree and/or MBA strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of five years managing in a manufacturing organization is required; seven+ years is preferred
  • Proven experience with supervision and the ability to provide leadership, motivation and direction to salaried employees while concurrently effectively working with union personnel.
  • Must possess demonstrated managerial and leadership experience
  • Must be experienced with project management, manufacturing and standardized process creation
  • Change agent with proven experience providing leadership, motivation and direction
  • Capable of working well with all levels of people (executives as well as plant employees) in a small, fast paced, hands-on, environment
  • Be knowledgeable of safety, quality, productivity, demand creation, engine assembly/testing and stewardship processes
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to create accountability and to lead by example
  • Strong team building, decision-making and people management skills
  • Strong lean manufacturing experience as a change agent and demonstrated use of common tools such as problem solving, visual management and Kaizen methodology.
  • Strong financial acumen
  • Working experience with an ERP system, preferably Oracle
  • Adequate knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources)
  • This position requires access or potential access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information, which is Not Releasable to Foreign Nationals (NOFORN) data. Therefore, to meet NOFORN requirement, you will have to provide proof of US Citizenship and attest that you do not have dual citizenship. Acceptable proof of US Citizenship is a US Passport, US Birth Certificate or Naturalization Certificate.
