Safety Technician (Finance)



Department: Environment Health Safety Salary: $43,000-$48,900
Description:

Conduct safety trainings and inspect safety equipment in University of Houston buildings. Maintains detailed records of all equipment, populate departmental database, investigate accidents/incidents, and support other EHS discipline-specific areas. Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has access to critical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the University infrastructure. This position requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether or not criminal history or continuous connections for the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the employee from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.

1. Conduct safety training for faculty, staff and students.

2. Inspects facilities, work areas and equipment. Verify fume hood functionality on campus.

3. Tests safety showers and eye washes on campus.

4. Coordinate and verify biosafety cabinet certifications.

5. Assists with activities and inventory of survey meters and dosimetry badges.

6. Populate departmental database and generate reports from database.

7. Populate departmental database and generate reports from database.

8. Investigate incidents and accidents to identify what caused them and how they might be prevented.

9. Provides services related to handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials, as needed.

10. Assist with respiratory fit-testing.

11. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MQ: Requires specialized training in basic trades, principles, procedures, practice, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.

Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience.

Additional Posting Information:

This role will involve significant time outside which may result in exposure to ambient temperatures and may require lifting up to 50 lbs.

Department is willing to accept education in lieu of experience.
