Research Assistant, Mathematical Sciences (Education)



Job Description

Job Summary

The Research Assistant will assist with research conducted through the Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence in Mathematics Education within the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Stevens Institute of Technology. This is a part-time, fixed-term position, working 20 hours per week, starting on July 1, 2025, and ending on August 31, 2025.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creation, implementation, and QA of randomizable mathematics problems that can be used for the basis of an automated tutoring system
  • Meeting regularly with the project team to discuss progress, challenges, and next steps

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics or a related field; Master's or Ph.D. degree preferred
  • Strong programming skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Compensation Range

In compliance with the New Jersey Wage Transparency Act, the semi-monthly base range for this position is $1,000 - $1,000. This range represents the University's good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting. Stevens Institute of Technology determines compensation based on factors including the position's scope and responsibilities, the candidate's experience, education, skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational considerations. The final salary will be set considering departmental budget, qualifications, and relevant credentials. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes additional forms of compensation, such as incentives, stipends, or other applicable pay components.
