  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum two years continuous work experience post high school; or six months manufacturing experience post high school.

  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous monoshell experience or material testing experience.

  • Self-starter that requires little supervision.

This 1st shift Jr. Development Technician (Ceramic) position will be located in the Howmet Research Center. The position will split time between ceramic development testing/support and working in our development foundry (DSL) monoshell room, with the aim of supporting our ceramic technologies through careful testing and observations of materials and results.

Overtime, including weekends, probable with varying workload.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Weighing and mixing of materials, including use of precision laboratory balances, high-shear mixers, lifts/hoists, and furnaces/ovens.
  • Understands and applies batch formulas, process directions, product criteria, work instructions, and other documents.
  • Monoshell mold build and mold dewax.
  • Performs slurry testing, materials inventory control, calibrations, and recordkeeping.
  • Uses precision laboratory instruments for measuring material properties.
  • Develops understanding of slurry behavior and maintenance to aid in process control.
  • Provides feedback regarding processes, materials, and equipment.
  • Submitting samples in LIMS and sharing reported results with team members.
  • Provides feedback regarding work instructions and helps modify as appropriate.
  • Must be comfortable working in an environment of experimentation, with uncertainty, flexibility, and changing tasks day-to-day.
  • Complies with all EHS rules required for the work environment.
  • Performs other duties as required, including cross-training into other areas.
