*Ingredient Coordinator (Project Management)



The ingredient specialist ensures the quality, safety, and compliance of raw materials used in the production of finished food products for OU Food Services. They are responsible for accurately logging all selected ingredients, developing specifications, and verifying that these ingredients can be successfully used in production while adhering to food safety and regulatory standards. Works directly with students, faculty, staff and visitors to ensure a knowledgable and safe dining experience based on self-identified food allergies and sensitivities. Responsible for completing specific and detailed administrative duties in support of this position and team, to include updating databases, creating and presenting food allergy training/educational seminars for staff and community, distributing data electronically and in-person, ordering essential resources and supplies and completing other food services duties in support of the department.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Manage day to day responsibilities of organizing and coordinating specialized functions related to OU Food Services ingredients
  • Answers questions, provides information and handles concerns from internal and external customers
  • Updates program procedures for a more efficient operation when necessary
  • Assists with design and selection of departmental software programs to support the mission of the position, to include inventory management software and recipe management software
  • Will select, supervise, train and evaluate performance of assigned student staff to include academic interns
  • Prepares staff schedules and monitors and approves time worked
  • Plans and coordinates special projects to include events focused on ingredient education, health and wellness, food allergies and sensitivities, and local food product highlights
  • Collects and disseminates information for internal and external customers
  • Performs other related duties as assigned 

Required Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED, AND:

  • 12 months office, clerical or administrative experience.

Skills:

  • Basic math skills
  • Advanced computer skills with wide knowledge of business software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines
  • Ability to work well with staff at all levels of the organizations
  • Able to synthesize large amounts of information on a daily basis to ensure smooth operations
  • Strong customer service orientation to make contact with other departments and university officials. 

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Communicates effectively. Engage in repetitive motion. 
  • Standard Office environment, but will also work in commercial kitchens
  • Perseverance, both physically and mentally, for fast-paced and demanding responsibilities required
  • Exposure to disagreeable conditions such as handling greasy, dirty materials, walking on slippery floors, going in and out of walk-in refrigeration units, etc. 
  • As essential personnel, may be required to work during inclement weather or campus closure.
  • Frequent pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods
  • Requires frequent contact with other departments and university officials and community members
  • Must be able to bend, lift, stoop, carry, push and pull food items/ingredients as necessary

Department Preferences:

  • Bachelor's Degree in dietetics
  • 12-months commercial food purchasing experiencing 
  • Previous professional experience in food allergy/sensitivity education

Supervision: May supervise a student employee. Position reports to Manager of Business Operations for OU Food Services.
