Salary Range: $80.00 - $85.00 Hourly

Sr. Electrical Engineer - Rail & Transit

Job Summary:

Candidate will perform Electrical Engineering and System Integration design services for infrastructure and facilities projects for Urban's railroad and transit agency clients during planning, design, procurement and construction phases. The candidate also shall provide professional engineering expertise in the oversight of FTA-funded major capital transit projects.

Responsibilities:

  • The Electrical Engineer reviews project plans, specifications and documents related to electrical utilities, power systems, equipment, distribution stations, power lines, and traction power systems.
  • The candidate shall be knowledgeable in both new electrical power systems, retrofitted systems, system integration plans and supporting documentation
  • Willingness to learn and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Verbal communication includes speaking with the Project Manager (PM), Designer of Record (DOR), Construction Manager (CM), and other contract staff, facility staff in person or via electronic devices.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and specs and prepare written contract administration documentation such as daily work reports, and other reports as requested.
  • Identify potential issues and keep the PM/CM advised of impacts and resolutions. Prepare related documentation.
  • Work with the PM, DOR and CM to coordinate work with client expectations.
  • Review electrical submittals for conformity to the applicable codes and standards.
  • Confirm electrical components are designed and installed correctly.
  • Responsible for reviewing infrastructure and facility electrical work, including:
    • electrical distribution
    • communications systems
  • Responsible for reviewing system integration work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements :
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET Accredited Program.
  • Minimum 12 years of experience designing and implementing electrical and traction power distribution systems with at least 6 of the 12 years in passenger rail transportation modes.
  • Licensure of a Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States.
  • Design and Construction Project work varying in size (projects ranging from $500K to $5 million plus) and complexity.
  • Experience with 11,000/25,000-volt alternating current overhead catenary traction power distribution and/or with 600-1500- volt direct current overhead or third rail traction power distribution as required by the project.
  • Knowledge of electrical and traction power distribution systems, related switchgear and substation facilities.
  • Experience with design and integration of signals, communication propulsion power systems, and control center engineering.
  • Experience evaluating and testing rail transit signal and control systems integration of software for real-time embedded systems using model-based software development tools.
  • Valid Driver's license.
  • Knowledge of computer software, including Microsoft Office, AutoCadd, Revit, SKM, and other related programs for electrical engineering.
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal skills

Pay Range: $80.00-$95.00 / hour
