Social Worker - Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (Finance)



This role will support UTHealth Houston's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences' HOMES program, using cognitive behavioral therapy to support treatment and research for persons experiencing homelessness. Project HOMES partners with recovery homes across Texas to support fully-funded communities where individuals using medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid and other addictions can build personalized paths to recovery. We focus on medically-assisted recovery (MAR), advocating for inclusive support systems that challenge common myths and stigma, and ensure people using medication are not excluded from the recovery community.

Position Summary:

Provides professional work involving medical and psychiatric social case services to interpret social and environmental factors relating to treatment and/or research.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1. Interviews and screens patients to interpret social and environmental factors and medical requirements part of case conceptualization and the development of treatment goals.
2. Plans course of treatment to ensure that patients receive appropriate treatment or referral.
3. Obtains clinical assessment data from patients to understand their presenting problems and need for treatments.
4. Works towards meeting total patient care and handles all aspects of routine casework. This includes interviews with the patients to study the individual's problems and needs, confers with the physician, faculty, and/or with any social agency which may have an interest in the patient's problem, and to make psychological and social adjustments necessitated by serious mental illness or co-occurring disorders, and conducts individual and group therapiesusing evidence-based practices
5. Prepares therapy notes and may audiorecord sessions with patients for review with coworkers or a faculty member.
6. Solicits the assistance of religious, social, and welfare agencies in the treatment of patients. Interacts with community health workers, research assistants, social work staff at community-based agencies and psychiatric residents and faculty.
7. Responds to emergency situations.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Licensure as a Bachelor Social Worker (LBSW) by the Texas Board of Social Work is required.
Licensure as a Master Social Worker (LMSW) by the Texas Board of Social Work is preferred.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor Degree in Social Work or related field.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
