Stormwater Senior Technical Manager (California) (Finance)

The successful candidate will be a motivated, growth-oriented professional with the ability to lead multi-disciplined project teams from planning and conceptual design through final design, permitting, construction, and closeout. You will have staff to mentor and clients to support. Our skilled team of engineers, as well as our integrated operations professionals and Fiscal Solutions team, will support you in delivering exceptional products to our clients. You will be an active participant in our delivery system improvement programs and help lead Practice initiatives.

Who are we looking for:

You will primarily provide engineering and environmental permitting support on stormwater and flood resiliency-related projects. However, experience with water resources, wastewater, and drinking water applications is valuable. This position offers the opportunity to direct and collaborate with a team of junior staff while also working closely with mid- and senior-level technical staff and leadership across the organization. The ideal candidate is a technically focused individual with strong experience in evaluating, planning, designing, and constructing urban stormwater solutions, including flood risk mitigation, stormwater conveyance, stormwater quality, and programmatic funding, among other areas. Experience developing permitting strategies and identifying critical permit requirements is required. You will lead the technical delivery of multiple projects, must be familiar with local and federal regulations, and be able to support marketing and proposal efforts.

Location: California Offices - Sacramento, San Francisco, Walnut Creek, Los Angeles, Irvine, San Jose, San Diego (Hybrid 1 -2 days a week in office or on site with clients).

Travel: Up to 20% of time with clients in CA. Occasional travel within the US to support national Practice strategic initiatives.

  • Stormwater Master Planning.
  • Multi-benefit projects.
  • Urban flood resiliency projects.
  • Stormwater quality treatment projects.

What you will be doing at Woodard & Curran:

  • Act as the technical lead for all sizes of projects.
  • Work alongside Project Manager(s), leading the technical delivery of project tasks.
  • Lead detailed design projects, including the creation of contract documents (i.e., plan sets and specifications), hydraulic and hydrologic calculations, report writing, and other activities needed to support the planning, design, and construction services for stormwater management facilities.
  • Lead the application of 1D and 2D hydraulic and hydrologic modeling systems in urban settings at the local and watershed level to support the planning and design of related infrastructure, including: pipelines, open channels, pump stations, channel stabilization techniques, storage and treatment facilities, multi-benefit facilities, and other conveyance measures.
  • Determine the overall technical and permitting approach for projects.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and training programs to internal and external clients and professional associations.
  • Support business development efforts under the direction of a client manager to provide technical support and guidance to a range of clients.
  • Provide input on the development of Woodard & Curran design guidelines and standards.

What you will need to succeed:

  • 10+ years of engineering experience relating to stormwater and flood resiliency projects.
  • A B.S. Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or other appropriate major.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in CA.
  • Extensive expertise in leading the planning and design of solutions for urban stormwater management challenges, related to both quantity and quality.
  • Experience with the selection and optimization of multi-benefit urban stormwater projects.
  • Experience with the development of Storm Drain Master Plans, including condition assessments, establishment of the level of service, and estimating costs for capital projects and the O&M of stormwater systems.
  • Proficiency with GIS tools and applications.
  • Proficiency with other hydrologic/hydraulic and water quality modeling software.
  • Knowledgeable in state bidding laws and funding programs.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Well-versed in local, state, and federal regulations regarding stormwater and flood resiliency projects.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to develop options and recommendations to solve technical challenges.
  • Up to date on the latest technological advances, regulatory trends, equipment, and processes.
  • Superior writing, communication, and presentation skills.

$155,000 - $210,000 a year

This role has the option for remote work, and the anticipated pay range is flexible, depending on factors such as the employee's primary work location, skills, experience, and education. The following examples illustrate how the pay range for the same role can vary based on different locations.

Walnut Creek, San Jose, San Francisco: $185,000 - $210,000

Los Angeles, Irvine: $165,000 - $189,000

Sacramento, San Diego: $155,000 - 180,000

This position's anticipated pay range is provided; the final exempt salary or non-exempt hourly pay will depend on experience level and will consider a percentage-based geographic differential based on where the final candidate will be working. Geographic differentials recognize and reflect the cost of labor differences between geographic markets.
